Monarchs & More Resource Page
Project Overview
The Monarchs & More resource page went along with a public program in a local science museum. It was designed to encourage families to follow their curiosity. Some caregivers expressed a lack of confidence in exploring STEM topics on their own. The one-page resource gave them ideas to keep the fun going at home. The success of this project led to the addition of more caregiver resources.
Objectives
My mission as part of the museum team was to encourage learning through play and exploration. While visitors were at the museum, I could engage them in programs and activities. But we wanted the culture of curiosity to continue after they went home. With that goal in mind, I created this resource page and made sure that it:
had carefully researched and age-appropriate resources
was designed to be eye-catching while remaining printer-friendly in black-and-white or color
did not overwhelm with too much information or choices
Success!
After the resource page was introduced, almost every caregiver utilized it. They took a paper copy or a picture of a full-color print that was on display. Once the resource page became standard, caregivers would often ask for it.
The successful prototype from the Monarchs & More program led to more resource pages. Within a year, all the other programs in the early childhood exhibit had their own version of this page. It also served as a template for the creation of a monthly book recommendations page.
Guests were often curious about learning more or asked for specific book recommendations. Facilitators now had something to reference to answer these common questions! It was also used to provide guests with an alternative if they were not able to attend the program in person. This project helped with guest relations and facilitator confidence.
